I like to describe my style as Retro/Versatile/Modern. I love playing with clothes. To me, it is art. Now, we all know how expensive vintage clothing can be, and boy, was I chuffed when I saw this vintage denim jacket last weekend in Vilakazi Street in Soweto. At first I was afraid to ask how much it was, so I simply walked away. Yet, this particular piece of clothing spoke to me. I kept looking at it from a distance to see if anyone had bought it, and after a while I swallowed my nerves and (at a risk of hearing it was R450) dragged my very broke self to the sales clerk to ask how much it was. To my delight, I found out it was only R60.00. Yes, three R20’s! I felt like a kid who had just received a talking doll for the very first time.
Once you know your own style, you know what to look for when you are shopping and where to look for it. My point is, while fashion says “me too”, style says “only me”. It is personal. It should not have a price tag, and if it does it is no train smash because that is your personal style. How much you pay for it should not matter (If you can afford it of course). It is special. It is what you decide to pick out of the fashion trends that you are offered four times a year, once every season. It is yours. So like my clothes, my hair needs to also be an expression of my style. Easy Waves is a brand I trust and lets me put my mood on display especially with the gel range. Now that’s me in a another form.
Like Rachel Zoe said : “Style is a way of saying who you are without having to speak”.
